SUMMER EMPLOYMENT - JOBS IN MILL VALLEY

Working at camp provides skills (and a resume) for life:

No other job reflects leadership, management, problem solving, developing curriculum, community building, and teaching creativity. Camp is one of the few jobs that builds skills and knowledge faster than they become obsolete. Future employers look at summer camp experience as an indicator for a successful future.

Camp Doodles only seeks staff members who want to make personal contributions to the children they serve.  Leading children, protecting their safety and helping them grow into worthy adults is challenging and serious work. The people that tend to succeed in a position like this recognize that it is hard work and go home with a strange mix of being exhausted, yet energized at the end of each day.

Being a camp counselor is very much like being a parent - the real reward is the knowledge that you have given a big part of yourself to many children and those children will carry that part of you with them for their whole life.

CAMP IS FOR CAMPERS:
The only reason you are there as a camp leader is for campers safety, campers’ health, campers’ education, and campers fun.

* You must like kids! You have to care about helping others have a good experience! You must be willing to put the needs of others before your own needs!

* Camp leaders must somehow make that significant role and attitude change from youthful participant to a responsible adult leader where “self” suddenly becomes secondary to the joys of helping others succeed.

* Camp leaders must get their “fun” from seeing others have good experiences, and observing campers who are doing new things, learning new knowledge and making new friends.

* If you don’t have these as the most important reasons to want to be a camp leader, please do not apply.

INFORMATION FOR FORMER CAMPERS:

Many of our current volunteers and paid staff members are former campers and/or CIT's. These individuals know our program well and can resonate deeply with our mission and camp style/format. While we are always excited to see how many campers apply for leadership positions in our program, it is important to recognize that we hire based on experience, attitude and overall fit. We consistently have many more applicants than we do spaces and are forced to turn away applicants every year...so, just because you were a camper, and we adore you (which we do!), this won't guarantee you a job.

RECIPE FOR A DOODLES COUNSELOR:
1 eye to see that everyone is having fun.  A second eye to always look out for safety.
1 soft voice for giving helpful encouragements, helping injured and scared children and making each camper feel special.
2 strong legs for leading hikes around Richardson Bay, biking to Tiburon, and playing games.
2 good arms for swimming at the pool and giving hugs.
2 strong lungs for singing crazy songs and camp cheers.
1 heart full of love for growing campers, their families and the entire camp staff.
1 secret suitcase full of patience for situations requiring more than the normal amount.
1 body full of energy to stay one step ahead of a group of zany campers.
A dash of theatrics to add adventure to everyday chores.
A pinch of pride to they’ll want to make every session the best of the summer.
Mix thoroughly with a few days of staff training, watch and encourage carefully over the course of the summer.  This recipe yields not only one great Doodles counselor, but hundreds of happy, growing campers.
